An intelligent charging solution for all electric cars
With Fronius Wattpilot, you can decide yourself how you want to charge your fully electric or hybrid car. In addition to the standard mode of the permanently installed Wattpilot Home 11J charging station, the smart plug and play charging solution has two different charging modes, Eco and Next Trip. In addition, Wattpilot is perfectly compatible for solar charging, meaning properly optimized and particularly cost-effective charging from excess solar energy.
The Wattpilot charging station can be used with the Solar.wattpilot application, which also provides an overview of the charging process.
Charging modes
In standard mode, charging is done with a predetermined electric current strength (e.g. 16 A). The level of the charging current can be changed by pressing the Wattpilot button or the application can be used to adjust the charging current in 1A steps.
In Eco Mode, the vehicle is charged only when cheaper electricity is available. In charging, you can use either cheaply acquired electricity (according to the price of electricity) or extra energy produced by the solar electricity system.
In Next Trip Mode, the vehicle is charged to the end at the self-selected time and with the specified amount of charge as cheaply as possible. The start of the download is selected in such a way that the desired download amount has been downloaded no later than one hour before the end of the download. Charging takes place at the most affordable time slot.
Residual current protection
The device has a built-in fault current protection module equipped with fault current detection (30 mA AC and 6 mA DC). Thus, there is no need for a separate type B residual current device. For each Wattpilot, you must connect a separate type A fault current protector and a line protection switch to the electrical center.
Automatic switching between 1-phase and 3-phase charging
Fronius Wattpilot can automatically switch between 1-phase and 3-phase charging. Automatic phase change enables charging with a low initial power (1‑phase, 38 kWh) in case of excess solar electricity. 1-phase charging also has the advantage that the charging power can be adjusted in smaller steps (0.23 kW) and the surplus of solar electricity can be used more efficiently. The car limits 1-phase charging, so it makes sense to switch to 3-phase charging when there is a larger surplus of solar electricity.
